2016 Volkswagen Scirocco GTS Review, Specs

The facelifted GTS version has been long awaited ever since
the Scirocco sports coupe was retouched last year. With
over a million units sold, the Scirocco is one of the most
successful sports cars in the world.

Exterior of new Scirocco GTS

The new exterior design is inspired by the Scirocco R-line trim
kit with custom bumpers, side sills, roof spoiler and rear
diffuser. The new Scirocco is also improved by 3D GTS logos in
the radiator grille and on the tailgate.

In order to achieve a bit vintage look, the designers put the
black side mirror caps.

The vehicle’s got 18” Norwich alloy wheels and optional 19”
Lugano wheels to match the red brake calipers of the car, and a
pair of red or black stripe decals across hood and roof.

Sporty GTS comes in some new color schemes: Flash Red, Pure
White, Oryx White, Urano Grey, Indium Grey and Deep Black.

Buyers can also opt for black Vienna leather upholstery,
multi-function steering wheel, bi-xenon headlights and
panoramic tilt sunroof.


2016 Scirocco GTS Interior

As for the interior of the redesigned Scirocco GTS, it’s
completely upgraded and comes in black with added red accents.
There are GTS badges all over the seats, sills and steering
wheel. Red accents are also dominant on gearlever enclosure,
arm rests, handbrake lever and floor mats.

Some other unique interior features are Composition Colour
infotainment system (available in Scirocco for the first time),
stainless steel pedals, and ‘golf ball’ gear knob.

This vehicle marks the debut of the second generation of the
modular infotainment matrix in this series of sports cars.

Systems that can be found in the Scirocco: Blind Spot Monitor,
Park Assist park steering assistant, Light Assist, DCC dynamic
chassis control, XDS transverse differential lock, Hill Hold
Assist, Dynaudio Excite sound system.

In Chinese market, the leather interior and the panoramic tilt
sunroof come as standard.


Engine and performance

New VW Scirocco GTS is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cyliner
turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 220 hp (additional 10
hp in comparison to the previous model). The engine is mated to
a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed DSG gearbox.

The compact coupe is said to reach 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in only
6.5 s and a top speed of 244 km/h (151 mph), or 246 km/h
 with manual transmission.

Estimated fuel consumption in Scirocco GTS 2016 is 6.1 l/100 km
or 38 mpg (combined). CO2 emissions is 142g/km (combined).


A little more about the Scirocco

Next to to the 2.0 TSI  engine reserved for GTS
version, there is the standard Scirocco  base 1.4 TSI
engine with 92 kW / 125 PS, 2.0 TSI with output of 132 kW / 180
PS, 2.0 TDI with 110 kW / 150 PS and 2.0 TDI with 135 kW / 184
PS. Of course there is the most powerful 2.0 TSI from the
Scirocco R, which develops 206 kW / 280 PS.


Price and release date

VW revealed the 2016 Scirocco GTS at Auto Shangai. The price of
the new 2016 Scirocco GTS will be announced at a later
date, but it is expected that the version with manual
gearbox costs about 33,000 Euros ($ 35,000), while for the DSG
should add another 1,500 Euros ($ 1,700) . Sales of the latest
Scirocco will begin in May this year, but the vehicle won’t be
available at the U.S. market.
