When it debuted, Aston Martin referred to the V12 Vantage as an
“unprecedented engineering achievement”. Later, the
automaker observed that they could have stopped there but they
instead took their imagination a little bit further and went on
to craft a more powerful variant of the V12 Vantage that
features a lighter chassis and a more responsive transmission.
The result is the V12 Vantage S which Aston Martin refers to as
“the most ferocious Aston Martin” to ever come out of their
factory. For 2017, Aston Martin has even gone old school to
keep the model fresh in the minds of its enthusiasts.
The new 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S comes with a manual
gearbox but I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t bring the
manual gearbox when the Vantage S was introduced in 2013. In
fact, the Vantage S is the only V-12 powered car with a manual
transmission. The reason behind the manual offering is so that
drivers can get to enjoy driving the vehicle more, something
that automatic transmissions rob the driver.
2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Exterior
The exterior look of the V12 Vantage S comes unchanged from
that of the 2016 model, reason being Aston Martin doesn’t want
to fix something that is not broken.
However, the automaker has added aerodynamic improvements to
the model. These improvements include a huge front splitter, a
sporty diffuser, sturdy side skirts and a host of carbon-fiber
components. The result is a very light vehicle but not as light
as its track-variant, the GT12. This excellent exterior design

This excellent exterior design though crafted in the early 2000
still looks fresh even in the midst of the new design language
as showcased by the new DB11. Nonetheless, buyers looking for a
more modern touch will love the optional Sport-Plus Package
which features an option of five body colors. The package also
features accent colors on the side sills, front grille, mirror
caps and the rear diffuser.
This adds to the regular white and black accent colors
currently offered. The Package also comes with an option
for 10-spoke Graphite finished alloy wheels.
2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Interior
Like the exterior, the cabin is also largely unchanged from the
2016 model. Almost all surfaces are wrapped in premium leather.
The seats are also wrapped in leather but there is an option
for Alcantara. The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara.
Buyers can select either Light weight bucket-style design for
the seats or a sports design. Buyers can also opt for one or a
combination of the 20 contrast stitching colors offered. Its
wide range of a whopping 31 hues and 16 extra shades
makes for infinite color combinations meaning buyers can
customize the cabin to suit their unique tastes and
New for 2017 is an AMi III infotainment system which offers
better graphics, advanced traffic information, improved voice
commands, faster loading times and updatable maps. The system
is also integrated with a new satellite navigation system. The
system also integrates Apple CarPlay which enables integration
of Smartphone functions to its inbuilt display.
Engine Specs and performance
As you have already imagined, the V12 Vantage S is motivated by
a V-12 engine. The mill is a 5.9 L, naturally aspirated engine
which comes good with 565 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. However,
as I said earlier, the engine comes with a new manual gearbox.
In addition to the regular 7-speed Sportshift III automatic
transmission, there will be a 7-speed manual gearbox. What’s
more, the system now features a dogleg 1st gear
position that groups regularly used gears in a double H pattern
which provides for quick shifting. The system also features the
AMSHIFT, a system that uses gear position, clutch as well as
the prop-shaft sensors to mimic heel-and-tow downshifts and
full throttle up shifts which results in minimal interruption
All these tunings help the model hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. It
has a top speed of 205 mph.
Price and release date
Only a limited number of the V12 Vantage S will be offered in
the US, 100 units to be specific and according to credible
reports, all the models have already sold out. This is despite
the $ 199,995 starting price tag. It remains to be seen whether
the performance-focused variant, the Vantage GT12 will be
offered for the 2017 model year.
