It all seemed like just another gimmick from Audi. For some
time the Audi Q6 concept had been teased eliciting endless
discussions and debates online. Finally, the concept is real
and is scheduled for release as a 2019 model year sometimes in
The 2019 Audi Q6 Electric SUV will have a coupe-like
profile similar to the BMW X6.
However, the exciting news is that it will be all-electric and
will provide a more ferocious onslaught on Tesla model X.
2019 Audi Q6 Electric Exterior
The German automaker will use a VW Group sourced architecture
which is shared with a number of other models. The platform is
known as MLB Evo and is believed to be designed from ground up
as an electric car along with a closed “belly”. This will help
the vehicle achieve a 0.25 coefficient of drag (a new record
for the SUV market segment) almost equal to that of the current
Toyota Prius hybrid.
The exterior profile of the electric car will be highly
aerodynamic. The five-door 2019 Audi Q6 SUV will measure 16.0
ft long, stretch 6.3 ft wide and stand at a height of 5.1 ft.
the vehicle will feature a coupe-like outline and an
exceptionally flat greenhouse which strongly tapers towards the
rear to complete a vibrant exterior look. The vehicle
features actuated elements on the hood, flanks and rear ends
which direct airflow as needed on speeds above 50 mph.
The vehicle features cameras in place of exterior side mirrors
which add to its excellent aerodynamics. The front also
features unique headlights with 5-signature elements which use
Matrix laser technology. The rear lights ill also comprise of
two sections with each of the top zones featuring nine OLED
units for taillights and 3 units below to assists in poorly lit
2019 Audi Q6 Electric Interior
The interior of the 2019 Audi Q6 Electric has been designed to
accommodate four passengers comfortably and leave a cargo room
of 21.7 cu ft. The interior will be illuminated by OLED
lighting technology. At the front of the cabin, there will be a
virtual cockpit. Below its instruments cluster will be two
touch displays with a slight aluminum frame and a black glass.
The right display will be used to control navigation and media
systems while the one on the left will be used for controlling
lights and piloted driving systems. The steering wheel is also
equipped with contoured touch services and can also serve as a
controlling level. There will be two extra OLED display screens
below the selector level to show climate control, drive system
status and programmable functions.
The cabin will also be equipped with modern technologies
developed for piloted driving. They will include a laser
scanner, ultrasonic sensors, a video camera and radar sensors.
We will update you as soon as we get more information on this
potentially revolutionary German machine.
Drive-train Specs and Performance
The automaker has designed a three-electric motor drive-train
for the e-Tron. One motor is mounted at the front while the
other two are placed on the rear axle. All motors combine to
provide a total of 496 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
The German automaker has also equipped the car with a real-time
torque management system that directs current to each of the
motors so as to optimize traction and reduce energy
consumption. The three motors derive their energy from a 95-kWh
battery which uses lithium-ion cells sourced from Samsung SDI
and LG Chem. The battery is laced under the floorpan running
from one side to the other and from the front to the rear axle.
According to Audi, this drive-train powers the vehicle to
accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and attains a top speed
of 130 mph. Audi also claims that the vehicle has a 310 miles
range. The battery will take less than 50 minutes to fully
recharge using a 150-kilowatt DC fast charger. The vehicle will
also be equipped with an autonomous charging function which
makes it easier as the driver doesn’t have to position the
vehicle exactly over the charging plate.
Price and release date
The model will be released in early 2018. Pricing details will
be announced close to its release as it is still too early to
expect an official release of such information, but according
to rumors, the starting price should be around $ 50,000. Be
sure to come back for updates on this fully-green Bavarian car.
As said earlier, the 2019 Audi Q6 e-tron targets
Tesla Model X even though it is a little smaller.
